Author was founder of the Methodist Church in the Gold Coast and the first Methodist missionary into Nigeria.

A very clean copy, but significant red underlinings throughout else a clean attractive VG copy. ISBN: 0620114894 Moffat's heroic efforts in learning the Tswana language, translating the gospel, and printing this and other works, are legendary. This includes a list of the publications produced at Kuruman 1831-1870. Also covered is a history of the printing press itself.

C. Struik. Cape Town 1967 1st edition. Duck-egg blue cloth boards. 149pp illustrated b/w. 8vo. No inscriptions. a Fine copy in VG dustwrapper (clean & bright, spine tanned but no loss, chips, or tears). George Champion was one of a party dispatched by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (in 1834?) to start a mission near Port Natal, the party arriving in Cape Town on 6th February 1835. They were instructed to keep a daily journal for submission to the Board. Delayed by act of war they only arrived in Port Natal on 21st December. Champion's diary starts on this date. Dingane was not a trustworthy person and his attitude to the missionaries changed continually. Champion's diary is a valuable personal insight into Dingane's despotic rule.

The Story of William Threlfall, Missionary Martyr of Namaqualand, with Some Account of Jacob Links and Johannes Jager Who Fell with Him.
Methodist Publishing Office & Book Room 1910. Rebound gilt in red vynide, new endpapers. 164pp illustrate large 8vo. Binding as new. ff tanned. overall VG+ condition. A member of the Weslyan Methodist Society, Threlfall arrived in the Cape in 1822. He served for a year under the Rev. William Shaw in the Albany District, Eastern Cape before proceeding to Delagoa Bay via Cape Town. Moving to Namaqualand in 1824 he was stationed at Leliefontein. Moving north in 1825 their guides murdered his party thus ending the mission at that point. William Threlfall’s life ended at age twenty-six. He did not leave any organized mission stations, churches, or educational centres which he could claim to have founded, nevertheless the mission station later established at Delagoa Bay bore his name. A memorial was erected on the farm Allgemeine Zeitung, Windhoek, Namibia, on September 14, 1987.

Biography of Cardinal Charles Lavigerie of the Spanish Society Of White Fathers, missionary. In 1868 he founded the Société des missionnaires d'Afrique, commonly known as the Pères Blancs or White Fathers, after the white magrebian dress they wore. Lavigerie himself drew up the rule. In 1874, he founded the Sahara and Sudan mission, and sent missionaries to Tunis, Tripoli, East Africa and the Congo.[Wikipedia].

Mrs Price was a daughter of the missionary Robert Moffat, marrying another missionary Rev. Roger Price. She lived and worked with him among the Bechuana tribes of southern Africa until his death in 1900. The journals are actually her letters written to her friends and family in England.

Hope Farm was the mission station 'Konigsberg' founded near Newcastle in 1868 by August Prozesky who was the original 'Mfundisi' of these stories. Originally written in German they were translated into English and edited by his great grandson Oskar Prozesky.
