0671612093 BLOCH, MICHAEL (ED), Wallis and Edward: Letters, 1931-1937: The Intimate Correspondence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor
BLOCH, MICHAEL (ED)
Wallis and Edward: Letters, 1931-1937: The Intimate Correspondence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor
NY: Summit Books, 1986. 0671612093. First Edition. First Printing. Hard Cover. ISBN: 0671612093. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. Hardcover with unclipped ($19.95) dust jacket. 8vo (6.5 x 9.5). 367 pp. Quarter bound in publisher's Royal Blue cloth over cream boards, gilt lettering on spine. Endpapers decorated with photographs of letters. Illustrated with 32 pages of B&W photographs. This book offers a glimpse inside the romance of Edward VII, the Duke of Windsor, and his beloved American paramour, Wallis Simpson. At the heart of this volume are the extraordinary letters exchanged by the lovers themselves, from their improbable first meeting in 1931 - Wallis socially obscure, Edward then Prince of Wales - till the moment they married at the Chateau de Cande in 1937. Perhaps the most romantic documents of our time, they chart the course of Edward's overwhelming passion for Wallis. Not only do these letters provide a fascinating account of Wallis's developing relationship with the man born to be King, but they also provide a striking view of life in London between the wars. The letters are most revealing, and created quite a sensation when they were published in 1986; disclosing, as they do, previously unknown aspects of Edward's character. The volume is in excellent condition, unmarked, tight, square and clean. Remainder mark on bottom edge. Unclipped dust jacket shows only mild wear. NEAR FINE/VERY GOOD+. Photographs. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 367 pp. Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket .

CANTACUZENE, PRINCESS JULIA, COUNTESS SPERANSKY, Revolutionary Days: Recollections of Romanoffs and Bolsheviki, 1914–1917: Including Passages from My Life Here and There, 1876-1917
CANTACUZENE, PRINCESS JULIA, COUNTESS SPERANSKY
Revolutionary Days: Recollections of Romanoffs and Bolsheviki, 1914–1917: Including Passages from My Life Here and There, 1876-1917
Chicago: The Lakeside Press, 1999. First Edition Thus. First Printing. Hard Cover. Publisher's full brown cloth, gilt lettering on spine, gilt medallion on front cover, t.e.g. Illustrated with B&W frontispiece and B&W photographs. Julia Dent Grant Cantacuzène Spiransky, Princess Cantacuzène, Countess Spiransky (1876-1975), was an American author and historian. She was the eldest child of Frederick Dent Grant and his wife Ida Marie Honoré, and the first grandchild of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States. In 1899, she married Prince Mikhail Cantacuzène, a Russian general and diplomat. Princess Cantacuzène was the author of three first-person accounts of the events leading up to the Russian Revolution in 1917, as well as a personal historian of the Russian people during that time. As the wife of a Russian nobleman, she was in a primary position to observe both the Imperial and Bolshevik positions during the Revolution. Cantacuzène was the author of numerous articles which appeared in the New York Times, Saturday Evening Post, and Woman's Home Companion. Her books included, "Russian People; Revolutionary Recollections," (1919); "Revolutionary Days; Recollections of Romanoffs and Bolsheviki, 1914–1917," (1920); and "My Life Here and There." (1922). All of her books were published in the U.S. by Charles Scribner's Sons, and in London by the firm of Chapman & Hall. Revolutionary Days was republished in December 1999 by R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company. The Cantacuzino or Cantacuzène family, a princely family of Wallachia, Moldavia and Russia, claims descent from a branch of the Greek Kantakouzenos family, descended from the Byzantine Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos (reigned 1347–1354). In Russia, the family received princely (Knyaz, as opposed to Velikij Knyaz) status. In 1944 Prince Stefan Cantacuzino settled in Sweden, where his descendants form part of the unintroduced nobility of the country. The volume is in perfect, pristine condition, unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean. AS NEW.. The Lakeside Classics Series. Vol. 97. B&W Photographs. 16mo 6" - 7" tall. (lx), 449, (1) pp. As New with No dust jacket as issued .

CASTANEDA DE NAJERA, PEDRO DE, Narrative of the Coronado Expedition (Relacion de la Jornada de Cibola)

Publisher's full brown cloth, gilt lettering on spine, gilt medallion on cover, t.e.g. Illustrated in Color and B&W. Text in both English and Spanish. Illustrated with a two-page color frontispiece, 12 color plates, two color maps and several B&W illustrations. Translated by George P. Hammond and Agapito Rey. Edited by John Miller Morris. Castaneda’s account ranks with the log of Columbus and the Relation of Soto’s expedition by “A Gentleman of Elvas” as one of the most important documents on the early European exploration of North America.
