A scarce and early run of The Indian Journal of Medical Research, comprising the first 12 volumes, along with the Supplementary Number to Vol. X, a substantial 366-page monograph on the trematode blood fluke Cercariae indica by R.B. Seymour Sewell. The journal commenced publication in 1913 under the editorship of Sir Pardey Lukis (1857-1917), with the mission to address the lack of an Indian periodical dedicated to the research and discussion of sanitation and disease prevention in a country facing serious public health challenges. The editorial introduction of Volume I, noted “At present there is in India no periodical devoted entirely to the publication of research work connected with sanitation and the prevention of disease.” This statement underscores the significance of the journal's role in shaping medical research and public health policies in British India. The Indian Journal of Medical Research focused heavily on tropical medicine and pathology, fields critical to the health landscape of India at the time.
