New York, U.S.A. Frederick A Stokes. 1901, First Edition Thus. Hard Cover, 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Marie Bashkirtseff (born Maria Konstantinovna Bashkirtseva, 1858-1884) was a Russian-Ukrainian diarist, painter, and sculptor. Bashkirtseff lived and worked in Paris for many years, and died at age 25 of Tuberculosis. Her journal was first published in 1887 in French was an immediate success, not least because its cosmopolitan confessional style. Combined with her letters, consisting of her correspondence with the writer Guy de Maupassant first published in 1891. CONDITION Grey ribbed cloth with bright gilt title and coloured and embossed rose decoration ( cloth unworn with some small marks and discolouration, bottom front cnr curved, slight damp stain to rear bd) publishers red stained top edge, pp 157 with 9 half tone photo plates. Pencil name inside front, printed on heavy cream paper stock. Copy is bright and crisp with some atmospheric toning to odd page edges. Very Good/No Jacket.
