The New Englander, Volume X: New Series - Volume IV, 1852
New Haven, F.W. Northrup, 1852. Paperback. Pages numbered 493-668. A softcover book in very good condition, considering its age. The spine is creased and has some chipping at the top. Spotty stains along the top of the front cover and spine. Foxing inside, but otherwise clean and tight. Volume 10 (New Series no. 4) of THE NEW ENGLANDER from November 1852. Originally founded in 1919 as THE CHRISTIAN SPECTATOR, this literary journal eventually became THE YALE REVIEW, and is still published today. This issue contains an anti-Catholic article called "Vicarious Religion," an essay on German historian Barthold Georg Niebuhr, an essay on the life and work of John Wycliffe, and an article about slavery literature, focusing on UNCLE TOM'S CABIN. Very Good .
