CIVIL War Era Engraving of President Abraham Lincoln
S. l. s. n. 1864. Hand-colored, steel engraving, n. d. (ca 1864); 9 1/2 x 7 1/2; a few small, worn spots to margins, not affecting illustration; overall age-toning and darkening, mostly visible to verso and margins; a faint scratch to portrait; in good to very good condition. A scarce, Civil War-era, oval, hand-colored, steel-engraved portrait of President Abraham Lincoln - it depicts him in a bust-size pose below an eagle, surrounded by a starred border, the latter encircled in turn with an elaborate leaf motif. Below him is an image of the Washington Capitol, with soldiers conducting marching drills in front of it, and a facsimile of his signature. Good .

The Life and Public Services of Abraham Lincoln
Stockton, CA, Daily Independent Steam Power Print, 1884. First Edition. First edition; 8 3/4 x 5 3/4; pp. [6], 9-326; pebbled brown cloth over boards with gilt title to spine; small rubbed spots to corners; fading to spine cover and some creasing to tips; rfep with a small chip to fore-edge; previous owner's signature to front board verso with a slight ink bleeding to ffep; overall in about very good condition. Charles Maltby (1811 - 1900) was a lifelong friend and colleague of Abraham Lincoln, having among other things clerked together at a store in ew Salem, Illinois in the early 1830s. After Lincoln's election to the presidency, he appointed Maltby - firstly, as collector of internal revenue for the Fifth District of California and later - as Superintendent of Indian Affairs in California. Starting in 1878, Maltby wrote a series of articles of his pmemories of Lincoln, which were printed in the Press journal in Santa Barbara under the title: "Abraham Lincoln: Personal Recollections of a Good President." In 1884, the articles were published in book form - the current edition. Very good .

Abraham Lincoln: Two Newspaper Accounts of the Assasination
Hartford, Conn. and Washington, DC, The Hartford Dailty Times and Daily Morning Chronicle, 1865. First Edition. Two newspapers - The Hartford Dailty Times, Vol. XXVI, Number 10,481 from April 18, 1865 and Daily Morning Chronicle, Vol. III, Number 151 from April 28, 1865; pp. [4] each; the Times folded, with tears, splits, and some loss of paper (mostly to margins), fair to good condition; the Chronicle folded, well-preserved, with a few small nicks to edges; very good condition. Early newspaper accounts of the assasination of President Lincoln, the Daily Times had its article titled: "The Assasination. A Deliberate Plot Unveiled." It gave a lengthy account of the deliberate preparations for the murder and speculations on the whereabouts of the assasins. The Chronicle's article - "Our National Loss. The Obsequies at Buffalo" - featured a portrait of Lincoln and detailed the funeral proceedings for the President. Very good .
