Includes January 1841 and April 1856 issues, with pagination differing from the rest. With two sets of printed wraps bound in, containing ads for Charles Dickens' Dombey and Son. Founded by Peleg Chandler, this influential early US law magazine contains many articles and opinions of trials and rulings of the day. Of note in this volume is Driskell v. Parish which rules on obstruction in the return of fugitive enslaved people, and Cocke v. Calkin et al which considers the jurisdiction of the newly admitted state of Texas and its state constitution and former treaty with the United States when Texas was a republic. Chandler was admitted to the bar in 1837, and wrote on many cases in the higher courts, as well as serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. GOOD condition. Paper spine with handwritten titling. Moderate uneven fading to the covers, with some foxing and several small stains, heavier to the rear. Minor foxing. Some creasing. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Interior solid with minor scattered soiling and foxing. Sporadic faint dampstaining at the top edge. Good .
