Original Russian leather boards, with simple gilt border. Front board with initials 'R C' to the centre. Edges lightly rubbed and bumped. Carefully re-backed at sometime in the past. Smooth spine in matching leather, simple gilt banding and gilt title, All page edges bright gilt. Inner gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers. Inner hinges carefully strengthened. Engraved name plate to verso of the front board: "Richard Congreve". Neat dedication to front free-endpaper: "Fromthe Revd. William Dalby with grateful acknowledgement of able & friendly tuition of his son at Ruby, to The Reverend Richard Congreve M.A. Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, January 30, 1849. Life of Horace in English all other works in Latin. Clean text and illustrations throughout. A well preserved copy with an interesting provenance.
