Amsterdam (Amsteldam), Tymon Houthaak, 1650, 8vo., full leather binding with ribbed and goldtooled spine, with handsewn headbands and red sprinkled edges, [12]+578+42+[15] pp., the leather binding is damaged, especcially on the back where it has split, the bookblock is in good condition with only minor (water)stains and smudges and a solid construction. With lovely deocorative initials. Includes: "Een Reede-strijd, tusschen een Ioode en een Chrsiten; daar in het Christen geloof verdadigt, het Ioodze ongeloofweer-legt engants vernietigt word". Judaica.l Johannes Buxtorf (1564-1629) was a celebrated professor of Hebrew. His massive work "De Synagoga Judaica" documents the Jewish customs and society. The first edition was published in 1603 and here we have an early Dutch translation of his work.
