John Francis Kitson of Anthony, South East Cornwall, to commemorate sixty years service as their vicar, committee members include Reginald Pole-Carew. Dated February 5th 1905. Image size 19.25" x 15.25" . Hand painted paper laid-down to canvas and stretched over a wooden frame. I can post with, or without, the frame showed in the picture. The illuminated address is neatly painted in blues, reds, and greens, highlighted in gold. At the top is a small albumen photo of the Reverend Kitson, and at the base is a small watercolour of the church at Antony, Cornwall. With the initials: "W.H" , to lower right corner. Thought to be William Hawken (one of the Committee members. Other names include: John Matthews; Alfred Hawken (Churchwardens). Committee: Reginald Pole-Carew; Walter D. Boger; John Green; John Haimes; Arthur F. Holman; William Hawken; William Lyne; Reginald Maddever; Charles H. Macey; George Wilcocks; Richard Wavish; Wilfred White. More pictures available on request. ** "John Francis Kitson (9 March 1818 – 29 July 1907) was an English cleric and cricketer, an alumnus of Exeter College, Oxford. Born in Crediton, Devon, he was the son of the Rev. John Lane Kitson. He matriculated at Exeter College in 1837, graduating B.A. in 1841. He played one first-class cricket match for Oxford University Cricket Club on 24 May 1838. An opening-batsman of unknown handedness, he scored a pair – two scores of zero – against the Marylebone Cricket Club who were victorious by 47 runs. Kitson became vicar of Antony, Cornwall. He died in Torpoint, Cornwall. In 1866 he married Charlotte Henrietta Edmonstone, daughter of William Edmonstone. They had eight sons and four daughters." - See Wikipedia*** Lieut.-General Sir Reginald Pole-Carew (1849 - 1924) lived at Antony House, Antony, Cornwall . The eldest son of the late W. H. Pole-carew, of Antony. He entered the Coldstream Guards and saw service in the Afghan War, in south Africa, in Burmah, and again in South Africa. Sir Reginald was military secretary to Lord Roberts in India. In 1900 he retired from the Army and was created K.C.B. In the following year he married Lady Betrix Butler, daughter of the Marquis of Ormonde.

London: Published By Day & Son, (Limited) Lith. Gate St. W.C. [1867] . 0. First and only edition. 11.0" x 9.0" x 0.5". 11 un-numbered leaves. Dull maroon cloth over bevelled boards. Front board with gilt title: "The Better Land."; and gilt date; "Mdccclxvii." Carefully rebacked at some time in the past. All page edges bright gilt. Original yellow endpapers. Inked dedication to front endpaper, dated 1867. Coloured title-page. Second leaf with preface by Right Reverend Samuel Wilberforce, gothic style text in red & black, dated; "S.Oxon. Cuddesdon Palace December 17th, 1866." 10 further illuminated illustrations. One with a small albumen photograpic vignette. Light foxing/toning to margins and off-setting to the verso off each plate. A well preserved copy of a scarce book. N.B.: "The work was produced to aid the rebuilding of St James Church, Ramsden in Oxfordshire. Helen Baker who provided the illustrations was a younger sister to the Rev Robert Lowbridge Baker then parish priest at Ramsden. The Reverend Robert Lowbridge Baker was the first vicar of Ramsden and gave the tower; spire and bells in memory of his first wife who died on the eve of the opening of the church. The church cost £1,886 and the tower, spire and bells cost £639 (accounts). The church opened on Friday 26th April 1872. The builder was Groves of Milton under Wychwood." Leighton.9.0" x 7.0" x 0.75". Cream bevelled boards with intricate gilt decoration. Rebacked with later cream cloth spine. Boards soiled and rubbed. All page edges bright gilt. Later marbled endpapers. Neat dedication to first leaf dated: "Feb 1st 1858." Frontis absent. 40 unnumbered pages with bright coloured illustrations. Colophon to base of last leaf: "Printed in colors [sic] by Ashbee & Dangerfield, 22, Bedford St. Covent Garden [London]. For Griffith & Farran, S. Pauls's Churchyard."
