FONER, PHILIP S. (EDITOR).
The Factory Girls.
Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1977. 0252004221. 1st edition. A collection of writings on life and struggles in the New England factories of the 1840s by the Factory Girls themselves, and the story, in their own words, of the first trade unions of women workers in the United States. MILLER, DOUGLAS T.
On Our Own. Americans in the Sixties.
Lexington: D.C.Heath and Company, 1996. 0669247774. "Through massive civil-rights and antiwar movements; struggles for the rights of women, gays, Native Americans, Hispanics; and concern for the environment, a generation emerged into maturity and took responsibility for reshaping the world that it had inherited. Of course, innumerable Americans either opposed these social movements or remained indifferent to them, and ultimately these idealistic dreams of changing America into a 'beloved community' went unrealized. Nevertheless, a series of boisterous upheavals profoundly shookl society." Pp.xiv/366, occasional black & white photo illustrations, owner's name to rear free endpaper. Paperback, crease to rear. G+.
