ARENDT, HANNAH.
Eichmann in Jerusalem. A Report on the Banality of Evil.
New York: The Viking Press, 1963. 1st edition. "When Adolf Eichmann was brougjt to trial in Jerusalem, the eyes of the world were on the courtroom. The drama of his kidnapping, the bitter controversies over jurisdiction, the scope and solemnity of the trial, its passionate undercurrents, racial and political - all these caught the imagination of mankind.. For Dr Arendt, the theatrical courtroom and the performance staged there, with its unexpected villains and buffoons, were only a beginning. With a directness and power of analysis..she goes straight to the issues at stake, ruthlessly dismissing the rhetoric and bluster". Pp.275, owner's details to front free endpaper, toning to endpaper, two newspaper cuttings concerning Eichmann loosely enclosed. Beige cloth, spotting to spine. Dustwrapper has edge wear and a few small edge chips. G+/VG.

BARTOSZEWSKI, WLADYSLAW.
War Crimes in Poland : Erich von dem Bach.
Warszawa: Wydawnictwo Zachodnie, 1961. Elaboration of the Polish text finished on May 15 1961. Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski, former SS-Obergruppenfuhrer, General of the Police and commander of German formations, which in 1944, after many weeks of fighting, suppressed the Warsaw uprising: He was called as a witness in the Nuremberg trials. Despite his responsibility for numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity, Bach-Zelewski did not stand trial in the Nuremberg trials, and instead appeared as a witness for the prosecution. He was later convicted for politically motivated murders committed before the war and died in prison in 1972 . Pp.109, illustrative materials and documents to end, occasional light spotting. Paperback, rubbed with edge wear and scuffing to spine. Scarce. G+.** "This publication, based exclusively on documents - mostly German - purports to draw a more complete picture f the personality and activities of war criminal Erich von dem Bach. In many details von dem Bach differed from the typical chiefs of the Nazi police and SS leaders. He was undoubtedly superior to many of his colleagues in the Himmler apparatus as concerns intelligence, political ability and elasticiity of tactics. His methods of action were therefore all the more perfidious and dangerous, and frequently more effective in the realization of the criminal plans of the Third Reich with regard to the nations of eastern Europe. The fact that von dem Bach like many others, was never held responsible by the German courts for his war crimes reveals German Federal Republic's attitude towards the Nazi past.". (Preface).
