Roma mother with three children
Caption: 'Spondeo divitius pauper [...] verba dedissi' Etching and engraving on laid paper, sheet size 317 x 375 mm., platemark 314 x 373 mm. Made by Cornelis Visscher after his own design, and published by Clement de Jonghe in Amsterdam, ca. 1650. A Roma mother feeds her newborn in a hilly forest landscape. A second child on her back is crying, while the third child stands beside her with a pot and spoon. Three other figures and a dog to the left, a dense forest to the right. In very good condition, cropped close to the platemark. Slight browning in the corners, but the image clean and fresh. References: Hollstein 49 (5/V); Smith 44
