A Good++ copy with excellent contents. Sound and clean. One plate (The Boomah Pass) not extant, no evidence of removal so likely that this was omitted during manufacture (as not infrequent at that time). Owners stamp opposite half-title page (R.G. Thompson, Sunderland) and 'Sold' ticket from W.H. Smith Subscription Library. Excelent folding map at rear. ".... With A Narrative Of H.R.H. The Duke Of Edinburgh's Visit To The Cape". (Sir) John Jarvis Bisset (1819-1894) arrived in South Africa as a child in 1820 and, having been commissioned as an ensign in the Cape Mounted Riflemen in 1835, fought in the 6th, 7th, and 8th Frontier Wars. He became Commanding officer of his regiment and went on to be acting Governor of Natal in 1865 and also Colonel of the 106th Regiment of Foot. (after Wikipedia).
