Press (the October 28 event). The reverse of this announces a Drag-O-Lantern contest and a costume that includes an award for the best dragula. The other handbill advertises a show requesting people to dress up New Wave style, with the classic New Wave hits of the 80s sure to be played. Mondo Connie, the Middle-Age Chola Cordially Invites You to Her, "Red Hot Salsa Cheesy Dique Party"!!! Mailer/Flyer
No Place, No Publisher. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Presumed Los Angeles, 1992, based on mailing cancellation on the reverse. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. , Sissy Club U.S. A. At Mugi's Free Admission Flyer
Sissy Club U.S. A. At Mugi's Free Admission Flyer
Los Angeles, Sissy Club USA, Publisher. Unbound. no date, perhaps late 1980s, early 1990s. Single sheet, approximately 8 by 4 inches. A handbill type piece giving free admission to the Sissy Club USA on Thursday nights at Mugi's, provided the holder arrives before 11. The piece urges to "Enter in the Rear," and states, "Call us generous, call us easy: your wish is our command." This f lyer is perhaps for a specific event at Mugi's, for "sissies," which perhaps indicates gay men who like to dress as women. Mugi's was opened in 1978 by Yoshi Sasaki, and was originally a restaurant serving Japanese food. However the venue soon became popular with gay Asian men and, in 1981, the owner turned it into a gay bar that focused on gay Asian men. The bar evolved into a venue where the gay Asian community could gather and organize, with Mugi's often sponsoring fundraising events for the gay community. This includes benefit drag shows in the 1990s. According to Camille Wise (from whom the previous information was taken) in her history of Mugi's, the bar eventually earned the status of a "rice" bar, where white men would come to meet Asian men. It appears this may have led to a decline in patronage in the late 1990s, and it may have closed by the year 2000. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling. Very Good .

San Francisco, International Hotel Support Committee, Publisher. Unbound. no date, presumed late 1970s. Single sheet, legal sized, light pink paper. Printed on both sides, with bilingual text: Spanish on one side, English on the other. A flier for a demonstration to stop evictions at the International Hotel in San Francisco. Given that the last tenants were evicted in August, 1977, it appears this demonstration may have been a last ditch effort. The flier describes public support for the cause, and gives a list of four demands The International Hotel was a hotel located in the Manilatown section of San Francisco, and provided low income housing to mostly elderly Filipino residents. Beginning in the late 1960s, developers sought to evict its residents in order to build a parking garage. Students, residents and city activists organized and protested for years against the eviction efforts, including poet Al Robles. GOOD condition. The English side has a strip of white paper glued along the top edge, obscuring some of the large captions. The paper bears a partial handwritten note that doesn't appear related to the flier. No Place, Committee For Self-Criticism or Vigilance, Publisher. Unbound. No place or date. Perhaps Berkeley, late 1968, early 1969. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Printed on a single side only. Issued by the "Committee For Self-Criticism or Vigilance," this leaflet perhaps refers to the student strikes occurring on the San Francisco State campus, strikes held to gain equality for Black, Asian and Latino students. F*Ck! Brings You Skin Parlor Monday February 14 Valentines Day Demo, "Fallen Angels" Performance at Midnight at Cosmos. Hypno Tribal Acid Transmission by James Stone. 1608 Cosmos St. Event Handbill
No Place, No publisher. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Perhaps Los Angeles, late 1980s, early 1990s. Approximately 5 ½ by 4 ½ inches. Pink cardstock paper. One side with event information surrounded by chains, with the other side featuring a photo of a man bound in ropes. Photograph was taken by Rick Castro, an American photographer and film director whose work often focuses on BDSM and kindred subjects. We can only surmise that this was for an event that may have been for the BDSM community, although based on the address, it was the location of a gay bar in Los Angeles in the 1930s, and perhaps a venue for the gay community after, although we have found nothing to absolutely say so. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease to the paper. Minor uneven fading, with tiny creases at the corners. Mailing address in ink on the side with the photo. Good .
