Babilonia Wilner Foundation
Scapegoating in a Time of War [Signed / Inscribed]
Berkeley, CA, Babilonia Wilner Foundation. Poster - offset lithographn. d. (late 20th century); 24 x 18; minor creasing and wear to corners; in very good or better condition. Signed and inscribed in silver ink: "Know History / Know Self!" by educators and co-authors of "The Forbidden Book: the Philippine-American War in Political Cartoons" Abraham "Abe" Ignacio and Jorge Emmanuel. The striking poster features an image of an old political cartoon from June 10, 1899, in which President McKinley is standing in a pool of water labeled "Civilization" and holdling and preparing to wash a "savage" Filipino with a brush labeled "Education." In the background two male figures are dressing themselves in outfits labeled "Cuba" and "Puerto Rico" and laughing while watching the scene in the water. Very good .
