Bookplate of Dominicus van Hoytema, showing an Ibis bird standing above a line of Egyptian hieratic script, within a decorative border. Lithograph in green on wove paper, sheet size 125 x 100 mm., image size c. 99 x 71 mm. Monogrammed in the stone, made by Theo van Hoytema, 1903. Theo van Hoytema (The Hague 1863 - 1917) was a Dutch decoration and interior painter, ceramic painter, watercolorist, printmaker (and especially lithographer) as well as painter. He made numerous calendars with bird illustrations, as well as fairy tale illustrations. He often drew animals from live or dead models in zoos and zoological museums. In fair condition, some dampstains in the top, right and lower margins. Sheet browned overall. The image area generally clean. References: Boot p. 52, nr. 60; De groot p. 19, nr. 65b
