A collection of short stories of mythology, culture of the various countries, and fairytales. Softening of the back strip edges and a little bumping and fraying of the book corners. The spine is somewhat cocked. Light age toning of the text block edges and pages with previous owners name to the top edge of the free front end page. Offset tanning to the end pages. The text is illustrated black and white line drawings and the occasional four page coloured illustration. 1/4 blue coloured cloth reinforced back strip. 3/4 illustrated front panel with black coloured titles. The second of the Victorian Readers series of books for primary school children. The book is showing its age – please see photograph. Creasing of the book corners and of the panels. Rubbing of edges and panels with staining also present. Some fraying of the cloth of the back strip. Light tanning of the text block edges and pages with creasing of page 51 to the left hand edge. Previous owners name to the top edge of the title page and a another owner has underlined the title of the book (on the title page) and then placed their name underneath. The Education Department of Victoria, Melbourne, 1922. First Edition, Softcover (Stiff Boards). Good Condition. Second-hand copy evidence that the cloth binding has been reglued to the text block. Internally clean. Occasional word underlined. (I only found 3 instances, but assume there are more.) 3 essays on the education Department of Victoria and the book was published to commemorate the Jubilee of the passing of the education act 1872 with its provisions of free, secular and compulsory education for the children of Victoria. The first part of the book deals with the period before the act was erected, the 2nd part of the book up until the establishment of the Commonwealth and the 3rd part the period up until 1922 which deals with the change administration under the first director of education. Illustrated throughout with line drawings, and black-and-white photographs. Light brown coloured boards with black coloured titles the front panel and back strip. A collection of short stories of mythology, culture of the various countries, and fairytales. While the title page says printed 1940, V back of the frontispiece has an inscription printed 9880/60-1. I would suggest that this is a later printing. Softening of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book edges with bumping of the lower book corners. Blue coloured ink stain to the front panel with stains and handling marks to the rear panel stop browning and foxing of the text block edges with browning of the pages. Previous owners name to the top edge of the title page. Remnants of tape can be seen to the end pages and there is offset tanning also present. Second Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
