Original red-brown blind stamped decorated boards with central gilt crest of the Sudbury Talbot (dulled). Corners and hinges rubbed. Original smooth spine with gilt titles (also dulled). Original yellow endpapers, inner hinges carefully strengthened. Armorial bookplate to the verso of the front board: "Ernest Bryan Gipps" . Small booksellers label to the recto of the rear board: "Bound by Remnant & Edmonds, London". A very good engraved and coloured frontis of All Saints Church by "J. G. Varrall sct." after a design buy "G. Tate del." Printed title page. Clean text except for some light edge staining and occasional blemish. Illustrated with two fold-out engraved plates, two further full-page engraved plates and 2 engravings witihin the text. A very good copy of a scarce book. ** "Ernest Bryan Gipps (1921–1999), was the leader of the Folkestone Municipal Orchestra and the brother of composer Ruth Gipps . *** " Charles David Badham was the son of Charles Badham, Regius Professor of the Practice of Medicine at the University of Glasgow. His mother was Margaret Campbell, known as "the Queen of Scots" and subject of a portrait by Ingres. His younger brother, confusingly called Charles Badham, was a noted classical scholar. Adding to the confusion, another younger brother, also called Charles Badham, became vicar of All Saints Sudbury in Suffolk." - See Wikipedia .
