First written by Thomas De Quincey in 1827, "On Murder Considered as one of the Fine Arts" was a fictional, sarcastic account of a ramble at a gentlemen's club on the aesthetic appreciation of murder. It was largely based on a series of murders, allegedly committed by one John Williams in 1811 in London. An instant success, the essay prompted the appearance of several sequels, including the current "Postscript," written in 1854. Very good .
