Hot Town Survival in the City; a Festival of Interdependence. July 4th Weekend (1970) Event Poster
No Place, No publisher, 1970. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Presumed Berkeley, 1970. Perhaps issued by the New Morning Commune, although no inclination of such is given on the poster. Single sheet, light blue paper stock. 17 by 22 inches. Illustration by Lars Svendsgaard. A poster advertising a festival at Ho Chi Minh (Willard) Park in Berkeley, featuring workshops, music, food and theatre. Urging people to "bring your collectives' vision to Hot Town," it appears this "Interdependence" festival hoped to gather a people from a variety of communes and activist circles from the Berkeley area. Ho Chi Minh Park (Willard Park) was used by activists in the area to organize and protest the Vietnam War. GOOD condition. Really, what could one expect from a poster appealing to a cross section of activists and hippies? General wrinkling and faint creasing to the poster, both large and small. Uneven fading, toning and minor soiling. Lower right corner torn off from the poster, with staple holes and tearing at the other corners. Street corner fresh!. Good .

[Counterculture, Head Shops]
Syzygy 108 Commonwealth Ave. (Boston?) Promotional Flyer
no Place, Syzygy, presumed Publisher. Unbound. no place or date. Presumed Boston circa 1970. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. A handwritten (albeit photomechanically reproduced) flyer advertisement for a place call Syzygy on 108 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston (we think). A crapload of question marks adorn the flyer. Why, you ask, did we even bother? It strikes us as the perfect epitome of the hippie/counterculture movement. First, the shop was giving away (!) hand blown glass pipes with any purchase of $5 or more, AND, one could register to win a free WATER BED!!! No doubt the recipient of these would be the envy of Boston. Google sucked at turning up anything on this business btw. Sorry. GOOD condition. Some curling and creasing to this piece of art. Minor toning and spotting. Good .

There Is an Energy That Makes You Alive. Guru Maharaj Ji Is the Perfect Master. Event Handbill/Flier
No Place, No publisher, 1971. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Cambridge, MA: 1971. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Peach colored paper. Small photo of Guru Maharaj Ji (Prem Rawat) in the lower center. A flier for an event held at the MIT Student Center on February 18, 1971. While Prem Rawat is the focus of the flier, the fine print indicates it was his disciple, Mahatma Ji Fakiranand who was to speak. Fakiranand gained some notoriety after a 1973 incident where journalist Pat Halley threw a shaving cream pie in the face of Guru Maharaj Ji. Fakiranand was accused of subsequently beating the journalist with a hammer, although the story has fluctuated over time. The flier features a mantra/aphorism at the top, and urges people to "Please come-what can you lose but your unhappiness?" GOOD+ condition. Minor fading, wrinkling and creasing. Good .
