Administrative County of Surrey Development Plan 1953: The Town Maps (12) Dorking
nd. c 1960 c. 70pp unnumbered typescript pages, fold out map. 33x21, card wraps, staple bound with glued cloth protection to spine and staples. Slight bumping to corners, two small tears to back cover not affecting contents, otherwise very good. The Surrey Development Plan had taken considerable time between its submission in 1953 and Government approval in 1958. The Town Maps (12 in total) were left to be drawn up later; this assessment of Dorking was one of them. Lots of interesting detail about the town and its potential development.

London, 1931. 75pp+ 22 figs on plates, large folding coloured map of Scheme in rear pocket. Some tables. Pictorial boards, cloth spine. 30x25. Top and bottom of spine rubbed else nice copy. Scarce. The area included Hastings, Bexhill, Rye, Battle etc. Much if it was rural, so amenity values are very important in the plan as well as communications, open spaces and zoning.

London, J Alexander, 1933. 120pp, including coloured frontispiece, 19 sketches, tables etc + 7 fold-out maps. Boards, acrylic spine. 25x16. Bump to top of front cover, council stamp on front. Covers the Epping Ridge, the Lea Valley and adjoining valleys and uplands. London suburban pressures were affecting the area, and settlements such as Becontree were being developed for LCC housing estates. A scarce inter-war Adshead Plan.

Interesting report on how to remake Chicago's streets in the light of fast rising traffic levels; the massive expansion of the urban expressway system was taken as read, but this report suggests how local residential streets could be freed from domination by cars. At the same time this opened up opportunities for urban renewal schemes.
