Mrs. John Sternhagen (Hussey, Gertrude)
Borrowed Book Check
Washington DC, By the author, 1930. Customed designed and printed, n. d. (ca 1930); 3 x 8 1/2; pp. [48 - it appears one leaf has been removed / used]; stapled red wraps, printed and ruled in black; text with an elaborate border in green on rectos only; minor creasing to corners; in very good or better condition. Unique and most probably custom-designed by Mrs. Hussey herself, each page of the booklet had two double sections, with perforations for separating - the first noting: "Date /Title / Loaned to," and the second: "Borrowed from the Books of." The lady most certainly wanted to make certain her books, loaned to friends and associates, would be returned. Gertrude Hussey (1894 - 1977) was a socialite, war nurse during WWI, and wife of John Meier Sternhagen (1888 - 1954) - member of the US Board of Tax Appeals, Judge of the Tax Court of the United States, and father of stage and screen actress Frances Sternhagen. Very good .
