Laundry work has traditionally been highly gendered, with the responsibility in most cultures falling to women (known as laundresses or washerwomen). The Industrial Revolution gradually led to mechanised solutions to laundry work, notably the washing machine and later the tumble dryer. Laundry, like cooking and child care, is done both at home and by commercial establishments outside the home. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

0932946038 BRADKIN, CHERYL GREIDER, The Seminole Patchwork Book
BRADKIN, CHERYL GREIDER
The Seminole Patchwork Book
Atlanta, GA: Yours Truly, 1980. 2nd Edition. Paperback. ISBN: 0932946038. This is an oversized paperback book with illustrated covers and a stapled spine. The book is in mostly clean, bright condition, with the exception of a small bump / tear to the top spine end. The text pages are clean and bright. "The Seminoles are composed of various culturally related tribes which began to migrate into North Florida sometime before 1750. These migrations were the result of the European political situation in Colonial North America. Consequently, the tribes which were to become the Seminoles had already replaced most of their native clothing for clothing they made from European trade goods, often borrowing European patterns as well. From studying early paintings made of Seminoles and from examining the few items of dress which have survived this era, we find that Seminole clothing of the early 19th century was similar to that of other Southeastern tribes. It also appears that Seminole clothing patterns from this period continued to be in vogue until the early years of this century." (from Seminole Clothing By David M. Blackard and Patsy West ) .. " In 1931, the National Council of Primary Education organization joined with the IKU to establish the Association for Childhood Education (ACE). In America during the Depression, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) hired the ACE to publish materials for nursery school teachers. Later, during World War II, the ACE sent books and toys to children in Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, and Italy. They also sent curriculum materials to the children's teachers, a continuation of their mission to enhance teachers' professional abilities and materials. One more organizational transition occurred fifteen years later in 1946: recognizing their membership's international focus, they became the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). Besides hosting international conferences across the world, the ACEI has sponsored study tours in the United States for teachers from other countries. In these ways they have opened a global dialogue of educational ideas for children, focusing on the ages from birth through early adolescence." (from the Assoc. Of Childhood Education, Int. ). KELLOGGS COMPANY (WITH POPULAR MECHANICS MAGAZINE), Kellogg's Junior Craftsman Blue Print for 28 Inch Model Racing Yacht
KELLOGGS COMPANY (WITH POPULAR MECHANICS MAGAZINE)
Kellogg's Junior Craftsman Blue Print for 28 Inch Model Racing Yacht
Battle Creek, MI: Kellogg's Company, 1933. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This is one sheet, folded three times to form a small booklet. The booklet is in Very Good condition. The outer covers have some ground-in dirt, several spots of discoloration and a previous owner's inked name. The inner covers and the blueprint itself are in clean, bright condition. There is one small edge nick / tear to the bottom edge of the booklet. "Kellogg, like other cereal manufacturers, realized that he was producing a basically generic product and the only difference between him and the competition was what could be instilled in the public’s mind by advertising. An effective tool of such thinking is the premium—and a proliferation of booklets, dolls and other lures to attract and hold consumer loyalty followed. All of this is cause for today’s collectors to rejoice because these premiums have become a hobby all of their own. Such advertising items and ephemera are now today’s highly prized and greatly enjoyed acquisitions. From the very beginning, the company distributed many different health booklets. A good example of this is “The Modern Figure”, released in 1932 and reprinted for several years afterward. These pamphlets, usually free, strongly advocated a sensible approach to health, including proper eating habits. Naturally, eating Kellogg’s cereals came highly recommended! .". Very Good .

Nothing on the market met our needs, and after a conference with Father Bob and Doris Sheffer it was proposed to the membership that we make a Fiber Book of our own. It was decided that each fiber would have a page explaining what the fiber was, how it was packaged and what colors were available. In addition, we wanted to know if the color matched that of another product, what size mesh was most appropriate, the number of plys needed, needle size, stitchery tips and any other general information which would make stitching more effective." ; Signed by Author.
