ARCHIBALD, E. H. (INTRODUCTION), A Preliminary Descriptive Catalogue of Portraits in Oils in the National Maritime Museum
ARCHIBALD, E. H. (INTRODUCTION)
A Preliminary Descriptive Catalogue of Portraits in Oils in the National Maritime Museum
London: National Maritime Museum, 1961. First Edition (Limited Edition of 200 Copies). Original Wrappers. 168 page descriptive catalogue of the Portraits with notes on each, + Index of Artists. ****** This preliminary catalogue of the portraits in the musum is now issued for limited circulation only in the hope that those who have information which will correct or amplify what s given will be willing to contribute their knowledge to a definitive catalogue.... About one third of the portraits are the property of Greenwich hospital. They were mostly brought together about 1825 from the royal collection and from other sources on the formation of the Naval Gallery in the Painted Hall at Greenwich : they were transferred on permanent loan to the National Maritime Museum soon after its foundation in 1934. Nearly all the remaining portraits were collected by Sir James Caird .... Much information about their provenance has been lost through the destruction of records during the war and help with these portrait will be particularly welcome ... Despite the appeal for information this is still an informative catalogue with much biographical detail on the sitters. Spine, covers & corners somewhat worn. ; Paperback; Quarto; 168 pages. Very Good with no dust jacket .

ARDIZZONE, NICHOLAS
Edward Ardizzone's World. The Etchings and Lithographs. An Introduction and Catalogue Raisonné
London: Unicorn Press and Wolseley Fine Arts, 2000. First Edition. Original boards. ISBN: 0906290570. With b/w & coloured plates & illustrations. Small stain to bottom edge, slight fading to spine dustjacket, otherwise light shelfwear only. ; Edward Ardizzone's World: The Etchings and Lithographs provides a fascinating look into the lesser-known aspects of Edward Ardizzone's artistic oeuvre, focusing specifically on his work with etchings and lithographs. This publication serves as both an introduction to these mediums within Ardizzone's career and a comprehensive catalogue of his works in these formats. It highlights how Ardizzone's talent for storytelling and keen observation of everyday life translated seamlessly from his more well-known illustrations into the realms of etching and lithography. The book delves into the technicalities of these artistic processes, showcasing Ardizzone's mastery over them and his ability to convey depth, emotion, and narrative through the intricate details of his prints. A valuable resource for collectors, scholars, and admirers of Ardizzone's work, this volume illuminates the breadth of his artistic skills and his innovative contributions to the field of printmaking, revealing a richer, more complex understanding of his artistic legacy; Folio; 144 pages. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket .
