, The Black Men of Omega Psi Phi Present Annual Poor People's Homecoming Dance Featuring Wajumbe Event Poster
The Black Men of Omega Psi Phi Present Annual Poor People's Homecoming Dance Featuring Wajumbe Event Poster
Earl Park, IN, Tribune Press, Printer. Unbound. no date, perhaps 1972. Single sheet, thin card stock paper. 21 ¾ by 13 ¾ inches. Reverse has an ink inscription reading, "Mich 1972." A poster for a dance and music event being held by an unstated chapter of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, a traditionally African American fraternity founded in 1911. The event was a "Poor People's Homecoming Dance," and featured an act, Wajumbe. It is possible Wajumbe was an obscure reggae act, but that is pure conjecture. FAIR condition. Nine different large scuffs to the surface of the poster, causing superficial loss in those areas, all around the edges, and most likely from the removal of tape. Some of these scuffs affect the color background of the poster. General toning, minor wrinkling and a hint of soiling. Fair .
