Foxed, some patches of light toning then a few pages towards the rear very toned. Contemporary half brown calf, spine gilt, marbled boards, edges sprinkled blue. Endcaps worn, upper joint starting at head and tail, rubbed, endpapers foxed, still very good. To title-page: 'Teignmouth' and author's name added in pencil. According to Barbier, an apocryphal work. Translation of Mémoires Secrets sur Napoléon Buonaparte. Top edges of some leaves a little ragged where they have been slit open after binding. Red cloth, title in gilt to spine and in black to upper board. Spine sunned, endpapers toned, very good. Hyndman's Preface (dated 1896) notes, 'The book has been set up, printed and published under circumstances involving great technical difficulties, by the Twentieth Century Press. This Press is entirely organised and managed by men of the working class in the interest of the Socialist movement in Great Britain; and I venture to think that the work done by them and the success which they have achieved with very slender funds is highly creditable to them in every way.'

With additional engraved title-page, publisher's catalogue to final page. Short closed tear to engraved title, closed tear to folding map repaired on verso with tape. Occasional patches of light toning, very good. Tan reverse calf neatly rebacked, raised bands, spine tooled in black with red morocco gilt label, borders tooled in black, endpapers renewed. Rubbed, some small marks and chips, corners frayed, still very good. From the Preface: 'the Proprietor has spared no expense - the Editor has shrunk from no laborious research, to render it worthy of universal patronage. Official papers and works of established reputation have been primarily consulted, as historical documents; much original information has been communicated by a gentleman who has actually visited the field of battle, and other parts of the Netherlands; a rich fund of anecdote has been collected from various authors of unquestionable veracity; - and a bona fide abridgement of the popular letters from St Helena has been introduced; to convey to the reader an accurate picture of the retirement, conversations, and pursuits of that adventurer, who, we trust, will; never be permitted to quit his present abode till his inordinate ambition is extinguished with his life.'

White dust-jacket, now somewhat grubby with closed tear to one corner, a little fraying to the others and creasing to edges, still good overall. Translated from and published simultaneously in Danish. A detailed description of a complex astronomical clock, now situated in Copenhagen Town Hall, completed posthumously between 1944 and 1955 (Jens Olsen died in 1945).

Contemporary half calf, gilt spine with raised bands and black title label, marbled boards, edges sprinkled brown, turquoise endpapers. Neatly rebacked with original spines retained. 2cm loss to tail of vol. I's original spine, but filled in. Calf a little darkened in places, rubbed, inner hinges repaired, very good. To front pastedown-down, small armourial bookplate with the name Barlow. To ffeps, blurry ownership inscription with the surname Barlow, dated 18(58?). To rear endpaper, a library ink stamp (without name of library). From the Preface: 'The present memoirs are founded upon the papers and documents which he left behind him… The work has been put together under the direction and management of the Duke of Elchingen, Marshal Ney's second son.'

Vol. I with bookseller's notes to ffep, M4 with loss to fore-edge margin not affecting text, a few leaves short at fore-edge. Vol. II with quite a few pages unopened at head edge. Contemporary dark green quarter cloth, drab paper-covered boards, spines gilt ruled with red labels. Worn, some splashes and marks to spines, loss to edge of vol. II label, end caps and corners frayed, edges worn, externally a little shabby but unsophisticated and sound. Each volume with bookplate of William Bartlett to front pastedown and illegible ownership inscription to head of title-page. Very scarce in the UK and Ireland. WorldCat finds physical copies at the National Library of Ireland and Hull Central Library; LibraryHub adds a copy at Senate House Library, though catalogued with a date of 1920, so perhaps a reprint.
