Illustrated by Gentleman with 55 miniature line drawings accompanying the text and 8 full-page plates reproduced as auto-lithographs in 8 printings at the Curwen Studio in London. A very scarce work.This volume contains a total of eight colourful moveable scenes, telling the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood&apos.Dean & Son were a noted London-based publisher in the nineteenth century, one of the first publishers to introduce pop-up books for children. Their "living picture" books began being published in the 1860s, with the animations activated by pulling a tab and moving the pictures.Publisher's adverts to the paste downs and endpapers.'Little Red Riding Hood' is a beloved fairy tale, these illustrations showing the young Little Red in a vivid red hooded cape, and a blue dress. The tale has a long history, but was first published by Charles Perrault in his 'Histoire et Contes du Temps Passe' anthology in 1697, in which he introduced the detail of the redness of Little Red's coat.Collated; page 1 tab is a little defective but present; page 3 tab does not work; page 4 lacks the tab; page 5 tab is a little defective but present; pages 7 and 8 lack the tabs.Undated, dated from the publisher's code to the rear wrap, '15,000-5,59&apos. Série complète du conte du petit chaperon rouge sur 12 plaques de verre peintes à la main et destinées à une lanterne magique, l'ancêtre du projecteur et du cinéma. Boite en carton agrafé de l'éditeur, avec sur le plat supérieur les titres suivants : 12 superior english made lantern slides. Manuscrit : Red riding hood. Traces de frottement sur la boîte. Une arrête du couvercle fendue sur 2cm. Sur la plaque 9, manque du papier qui cercle la plaque sur une bordure. Sur la plaque 12, la partie noire est grattée sur 1cm, cette partie ceinturant le médaillon qui est projetée par la lanterne. Ensemble en excellent état. Millikin & Lawley exercèrent leur commerce de lanternes magiques et de plaques entre 1860 et 1900. Publisher's cardboard box, with the titles on the top board: ""12 Superior English Made lantern slides"". Handwritten: ""Red Riding Hood"". Signs of rubbing on the box. A stop in the split lid at 2cm. On plate 9, paper is missing which circles the plate in a border. On plate 12, the black part has a small scratch, this part encircling the medallion which is projected by the lantern. Otherwise collection in excellent condition. Millikin & Lawley carried out their trade in magic lanterns and plates between 1860 and 1900.
