Vicomte Joseph-Alexis Walsh
Saint Louis Et Son Siecle

Louis IX was crowned at the age of twelve, and is the only French king to be declared a saint, resulting in many of his successors being named Louis. He is considered a model of the ideal Christian monarch, for his visiting hospitals and wearing hair shirts. Louis also led the Seventh Crusade to the Holy Land in 1251. He was devoted to literature, and published many works during his life, including 'Les massacres de Septembre', 'Explorations en Normandie', and 'Souvenirs et impressions de voyage&apos. With a frontispiece, illustrated title page, and six plates. In the original French. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown, 'Anna Maria Priney, Tours, May 1854&apos.
