Not only was Reece an avid shark fisherman, he also happened to be head of Brighton's CID at the time of the IRA bombing of the Brighton Grand Hotel in 1984. Reece's police force was responsible for the capture of Patrick Magee, the perpetrator of the bombing, and collection of vital evidence that helped convict him.
