Set up in 1935, as the School of Planning and Research for National Development (SPRND), the aims of the school were to offer a postgraduate evening school within the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture. Here, graduates in architecture and other disciplines were able to take courses in town planning. The school was run from 1940 - 1953, after it closed there was concern over 'Communist Influences' within the School.
