The first edition.Complete in four volumes.An interesting biography on George Selwyn, looking through the many letters that survived him from various eminent figures of the day, providing a fascinating insight into Georgian politics.Selwyn was a Member of Parliament and eccentric, known for being silent in the House of Commons for the 44 years he sat there.Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, and two plates.Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, and two plates.Volume III illustrated with a frontispiece.Volume IV illustrated with a frontispiece and one plates.Collated, complete.Written by the historian John Heneage Jesse. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spines and extremities are faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spines, including a couple of dampstains to the rear board of Volume IV. Light rubbing to the rear joint of Volume IV. Rear hinge of Volumes II is strained, rear hinge of Volume IV is weak. Internally, Volume I is firmly bound, Volume II is generally firmly bound and a little strained in places, Volume III is generally firmly bound, Volume IV binding is strained. Pages are very lightly age toned and generally clean with the occasional spot. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .

The first edition. In a signed binding by J R Gray and Son, with their stamp to the front pastedown.  Former owner's book label to the front pastedown of volume I 'I W A Harding Madingley&apos. Illustrated, with a frontispiece to each volume. Volumes I and II have an additional two plates.  Volume IV has a second portrait plate. Therefore nine plates total. Collated, complete. Written by John Heneage Jesse, an English historian. He wrote many important historical works such as Memoirs of the Court of England during the Reign of the Stuarts and Memoirs of the Pretenders and Their Adherents. This historical work is based on the personal history, and context of the times, of George Augustus Selwyn. Selwyn was an MP for Great Britain during the eighteenth century.  In uniform half morocco bindings. Externally, in a lovely condition. The spines have faded slightly. Evidence of label removal to the front board of volume II. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spots. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine .
