The first in the 'Famous Five' adventures series, where Julian, Dick and Anne meet their cousin Georgina(who is a tomboy and prefers to be called George) and her dog Timmy, and the adventures they have on Kirrin Island. Pp.191, 32 full page drawings by Eileen A.Soper, several pages have losses to the lower margins of the pages (not affecting text) and there is a 4.5cm closed tear to the bottom of pp.81/82. Light blue cloth slightly soiled, spine faded, edges rubbed. G-.

Hodder & Stoughton,, [1952]. 8vo., Seventh Impression, with coloured frontispiece, illustrations in the text (a number full-page), and pictorial endpapers; red cloth, upper board and backstrip lettered in black, a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter mildly rubbed at extremities. Bright copy of the second Famous Five adventure, first published in 1943. The second state dustwrapper shows Tim the dog attacking, while the illustration from front panel of first state wrapper is now present as frontispiece.
