Vol. 1 has added engraved t.-p.: illustrated catalogue. The exhibition,-1876-78 marked the centennial of the country's birth. The Second volume, edited by Walter Smith, the first professional art educationist in the U.S.A. shows the extraordinary work which Victorian taste and skill was able to produce using new factory methods. The third volume includes wonderful plates of the most advanced machinery produced in the United States and Europe, with texts by experts describing their functioning. At this point American machinery was as good as European manufacture. Momberger was in charge of the engravings; they are the finest wood engravings of their kind. Not in Hamilton, RLIn 6 Locs.
