In this edition, particular directions are given with respect to soil and situation; and to the whole is added, complete and useful lists of forest trees .. with the varieties of each sort, cultivated in the English gardens By John Abercrombie and Thomas Mawe. A complete gardening manual which also deals with landscape architecture. The first edition was issued in 1767. Mawe was "gardner to his Grace the Duke of Leeds" and Abercrombie, "gardner, Newington, Surry." It was a very popular work and new editions were issued as recently as 1879. Abercrombie did not allow his name to appear on the first edition, but later stated in the book that he wrote it all including that issue. Although common in later issues scarce in this one.~Cleveland Herbal and Horticultural Collection 734 (whose copy lacks a leaf).
