The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, TsAGI (an abbreviation of the transliteration of the Russian name of the institute) was founded in 1918 by the father of Russian aviation Nikolai Zhukovskii (1847 - 1921). It would be the first institution to combine basic education, applied research, structural design, pilot training, and testing. Today, TsAGI is one of the largest research and production institutions in the world and throughout its existence, it has pioneered various aviation technologies, applications, and studies.
