Various - Winter Sports for 1939 Oakland, CA: Tribune Press, 1939. Softcover. First edition; 9 x 6; pp. 31; illustrated wraps; small chip to upper right corner and a pen scribble to front wrap; a bit of wear along spine; illustrated with maps, diagrams, tables, photographs, and drawings; good to very good condition. Compliments of the Oakland Tribune, the pamphlet was a fragile survivor of a time when skiing was picking up speed in California and the California Ski Association, established as a direct result of losing the 1932 Winter Olympic Games to Lake Placid, NY, was still in its infancy. Though titled with the somewhat generic "Winter Sports," it was largely devoted to skiing and featured several drawn maps of ski trails and ski tows in Northern and Central California, 11 lessons in downhill skiing, jumping, turning, etc. ice skating tips, and more.
