Schastnev, P. N. and Terekhov, P. G. - Geografiia Chastei Sveta I Vazhneishikh Gosudarstv. Uchebnik Dlia VI-VII Klassov Vosė¹Miletnei Shkoly

Gosudarstvennoe Uchebno-Pedagogicheskoe Izdatelā€™stvo Ministerstva Prosveshcheniia RSFSR, 1961. Hardcover. First edition thus; 6 x 8 1/2; pp. [2], 3-303, [1]; cloth-backed pictorial boards; wear along edges; few small spots to back cover; pages uniformly age-toned; illustrated with numerous b&w photographs, maps, and tables as well as full-page color plates; good to very good condition. In a typical Soviet fashion - a middle-school world geography textbook has become as much an anti-Capitalism propaganda tool as it is an educational tool. The section on North America and particularly on the US contains various paragraphs on the glaring riches of a few billionaires and the poverty of the rest of the workers (as opposed to the equality of everybody in the Soviet Union), the poisonous air and the ugliness of the big American cities, and the altogether misery of the citizens here. Of particular interest is a map of Manhattan which is quite crude and slightly inaccurate. Ill.: 0. 2.
