Minkov, Ivan - Arestuvani Knigi/ "Slunchev Briag" Lagerut Na Smurtta (Arrested Books/ "Sunny Beach" the Camp of Death)

Sofia: Izdatelstvo na BZNS, 1990. Soft cover. First edition; 5" x 8"; pp. [2], 5-111, [1] including text to last page; original blue wraps with title in yellow and white; illustrations from photographs; minor rubbing to head and tail of spine; near fine. In this book, written immediately after the fall of Communism, the author has recreated through interviews and research the chilling horror of the Bulgarian Labor Camps. The Concentration Camps, for that was what they were, were established right after WWII. By a Government Decree the camps were "designed for incorrigible vagrants and recidivists." Later, in 1962, a Politburo decision stated that "an individual could be imprisoned and assigned to forced labor without a court trial." Anybody considered a threat to the Party - including people telling anti-Government jokes, people refusing to join the co-operative agricultural system, etc. - ended up in one of the camps to never be heard from again. Ill.: 0. Near Fine 1.
