Bawden was appointed one of the first Official War Artists of the Second World War. He was sent to join the British Army in France, was evacuated from Dunkirk and then sent to the Middle East, where he spent two years. His ship was torpedoed on his return to England and he spent two months in a French internment camp before being released, only to return to the Middle East, for much of the remainder of the War. Fine in fine dust jacket.
