The first of a proposed series of five volumes covering the fundamental events and pivotal works of 20th-century art. This volume begins with the Great Exhibition in Paris and ends with the initial phase of the Dada movement and the founding of the Bauhaus, with essays that explore the undercurrents of the period in some detail. The color plates are plentiful and offer an immediate visual orientation to the subject.
