Original four page document, the land being leased being 1 rood 22 perches in size ( just over quarter of an acre) the rent on the land being five shillings per year. very good condition. From the 1870s onwards gold miners and others were encouraged to become permanent residents on the gold fields of Queensland. The number of applicants was restricted to 100 on each field, The Mineral Homestead leases Act of 1891 which this lease is written under allowed leases in mining districts , for mining other than gold, on terms which were the same as for the earlier gold fields homestead leases
