The "Cheap" edition the first systematic reissuance of Dickens' works and begun in 1847, with Pickwick Papers, in weekly, monthly & volume formats. The edition characterised by the double column format and illustrated solely with a frontispiece, and contains a new preface by Dickens written expressly for this edition.
