An introduction to the study of eclipsing variables, by one of the most active theoretical astronomers of his time. The ownership signature of HN Russell is faintly pencilled to the first endpaper. This is probably the signature of Henry Norris Russell, another famous astronomer, who played a major role in the establishment of modern theoretical astrophysics. He is also known as the professor who rejected the findings of the PhD dissertation of Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin because her conclusion that the universe is composed almost entirely of hydrogen and helium contradicted the accepted wisdom of the time.
