A beautiful personification of Justice, blindfolded with a scale in her left hand and a sword in the other. To the left and to the right of the woman are two scenes of sentences-execution, by means of head cutting with a sword and a man being hit while bound to a stump, in front of other people. More to the background on the right is a village in the distance.Originally part of a set of prints; Oordeel van graaf Willem III over de baljuw van Zuid-Holland, 1336 / Iustiti over den baeliuw van Zuyt-Hollant, door Willem de Goede, graef van Hollandt etc.According to Van Regteren Altena, this engraving was probably realized soon after the execution of Pieter Panne in 1598. (Van Regteren Altena 1983, II, 197).Signed on the bottom, close to the woman's right foot: IDGhein inven. (IDG monogrammed); with Visscher's address at bottom: C.I. Visscher excu. Engraving on paper, trimmed close to plate; total: 139 x 174 mm; mounted on another sheet of laid paper with the left corners; this latter sheet affected by foxing on the top part, also lightly affecting the plate to the right; state II/2, van Stolk 139.
