Upwards of three hundred illustrations, including two in colour and the tipped-in Baxter print, often missing, xvi,749,(3)pp., top edges gilt, others untrimmed, large 8vo.(260x175mm), contemporary 1/2 tan morocco, marbled boards a little rubbed. A nice copy of an attractive book. ¶ Jackson himself engraved nearly all the illustrations and there is a 100-page discussion of the techniques of wood engraving. With the signature of botanist and antiquarian Dawson Turner on blank flyleaf (1846) and a somewhat later neat ownership signature at top corner of the titlepage.
