Published anonymously, this work contains the recollections from the author's escapades at a private tutor's during his youth. Written by Frank. E. Smedley, devoted to share the life of a privately-educated pupil. An early printing, the first edition appears dated both at the title page and preface, and illustrated with thirty steel engravings by 'Phiz;' this edition was dated from Copac and lacks illustrations. No advertisements to the rear. No half title. In a charming half calf binding. In a half calf binding over marbled boards, with new endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and a minor rubbing to the leather and boards. Lambert 'ut quocunque paratus' bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
