GERBERDING, G.H., D.D. (THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY OF THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, CHICAGO) - LIFE AND LETTERS OF W.A. [William Alfred] PASSAVANT, D.D.

Greenville, Pa. Young Lutheran Co. 1906.. Hardcover . Hardback, tall thick octavo, 6 1/8 x 9 1/4 inches, gilt titling on orig dark maroon cloth covers, 615 pages, G+/no dj. Snug binding, decorative endpapers with hinges intact. A previous owner's oblong bookplate inside front cover: "Private Library of Frank O. [Frank Otto] Broesicke". Broesicke (1892-1973) born in Germany, was a preacher in Texas. Another name in neat ballpoint top corner ffep & same ballpoint crossed through Broesicke's name a few times (cleaned up considerably by picking away at the ballpoint). Interior otherwise very nice throughout incl frontis portrait of Passavant and its tissue overlay. Exterior not a great deal of general wear but small nick fore-edge front cover & looks like some muddy splattering a little worse than minor that's noticeable but doesn't affect appearance greatly (blends in somewhat with the dark tone of the cloth). Wiki states that Passavant "was a Lutheran minister noted for bringing the Lutheran Deaconess movement to the United States" and had organized a number of orphans' homes and hospitals in Pennsylvania, Illinois & Wisconsin. Book rather heavy & extra shipping charges will be requested for Priority or International order. Good.
