EATON, QUAINTANCE - Opera Production - A Handbook

Univ. of Minnesota, 1961, First Printing. 1961, 1st Edition. Hardcover . Hardback, octavo, appx 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches (16 x 23.5 cm), gilt titling and decoration on black cloth covers, xx + 266 pages, VG/no dj. TIght square binding, covers generally very clean (light hints of moisture). Clean endpapers, generally very nice interior but very judicious use of a little pink highlighting of the names/titles (only) of a few operas in both the text and the index (around 20 total in each case). Looks like about 400 operas listed alphabetically throughout the book, all viewable at a glance in the 7-page, 2-column format similarly alphabetized Table of Contents. Notes for each opera include composer, general commentary, settings, synopsis, major roles, lesser roles, bit parts, chorus appearances , orchestra components, material sources (music/scores), photograph availability, performing companies. Long Operas through p. 159, Short Operas through p. 233. At the rear: Appendix, Key to Abbreviations, Performing Companies, Index by Composers. Very Good.
