HOLST, B.P., EDITOR, WITH VARIOUS CONTRIBUTORS - THE TEACHERS' AND PUPILS' CYCLOPAEDIA, A Popular Dictionary of Geography, Biography, History, Litereature, Economics, Civics, Arts, Sciences, Discoveries & Inventions (Complete Set in 4 Volumes)

Boone, Iowa & Chicago, Illinois, Holst Publishing, 1906. 1906. Hardcover . Hardbacks, tall thick 8vos, appx 6 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches, gilt on red cloth, 2340 total pages, rebound and as such a VG+ set. Externally Near Fine. Bindings are completely solid, rebound perhaps in the 1930's or 1940's (binder's small foil label at the lower edge of each front pastedown). Text was undertrimmed a bit for rebinding as evidenced by the fore-edge captions of the color plates are trimmed a little close. All three edges of each volume spatter-stained in brown. Volume 3 title page has "Vol. III" in ballpoint near the gutter. Affixed to each title page was a perforated card with bindery instructions, two volumes now showing only the stub remaining at the gutter, one volume showing only remnants of a stub and one volume having the stub and the entire card extant. Numerous vignette illustrations in the work with maps, portraits, etc. Colorful anatomical cut-away pop-up at the rear of volume 4 (has a short tear at gutter). Editor Holst was an Iowa teacher and school superintendent. Very Good.
